ANAHEIM CITY HALL PLAZA, ANAHEIM, CA
The Anaheim Civic Center campus encompasses several buildings and open spaces built over time on both sides of Anaheim Boulevard. Urban residential infill projects and a focus on creating a walkable downtown are transforming Anaheim's historic center. At the City Hall complex, adaptive reuse of adjacent buildings, studies to expand the City Council Chambers and the extension of an existing city street led to consideration of the larger urban design context, including the open space adjacent to City Hall fronting Anaheim Boulevard.
WHITIN DESIGN WORKS created five alternative design approachs for City Hall Plaza using programmatic guidelines which retain or remove existing outdoor spaces. 3D Sketch-Up views were utilized to help the Client evaluate design features of each alternative as well as the ground level walking and driving experiences.
