Hewlett Packard, Rancho Bernardo, CA

The basis for WHITIN DESIGN WORKS' redesign of the Hewlett Packard 80-acre campus landscape reinforces the corporate commitment for use of regional, native, drought tolerant plant material, selected for seasonal color to compliment the new and renovated buildings and outdoor spaces. The main entry was redesigned using low water and low maintenance plant species. WHITIN DESIGN WORKS created a series of parallel lines of California Pepper trees to define outdoor courtyards, pedestrian connections between buildings and new recreation spaces adjacent to a new office building. The design of a Memorial Courtyard for David Packard, one of the co-founders, showcases an enormous specimen California Live Oak tree, selected to commemorate the Oaks growing on the garage site of the original Hewlett Packard start-up office.
