In fall 2010 WHITIN DESIGN WORKS completed the landscape design and installation for the renovation of the former Von der Ahe Library, a 1950s building by A.C. Martin. The Library was extensively renovated to house the new Student and Alumni Centers. The landscape design draws on the modernist architecture, showcasing the revamped building and its prominent location along the cross-axial Palm Walk. Special attention was paid to selectively retain significant trees and to transplant mature shrubs. WHITIN DESIGN WORKS worked closely with Campus Facilities Management and the General Contractor to meet the tight completion deadline. Services included evaluation of the existing landscape, development of the landscape demolition plan, creation of the planting plan, cost review and Construction Observation.
