Athens Development
Laguna Beach, California

Popularized by the 1940s movie "Treasure Island", the 30 acre site is among the most picturesque locations along the west coast of the United States. In converting the Treasure Island property from a trailer park into a 250 guest room resort with villas and a community park, the plan called for one-third of the site area to be dedicated permanent open space for walking trails, a bluff-top park and gardens.

The buildings are laid out as a craftsman style village set within the coastal landscape and are designed to conform to the sloping topography. WHITIN DESIGN WORKS developed the design concept, drawings and sketches for the resort and public park in addition to assisting the Client in the public approval process with the City of Laguna Beach, community and environmental groups.
