ANAHEIM CITY HALL PLAZA
Anaheim Redevelopment Agency
WHITIN DESIGN WORKS, together with the Anaheim Redevelopment Agency, City of Anaheim Public Works and Field Paoli Architects created design concepts for the renovation of existing Anaheim City Hall Plaza and expansion of Anaheim City Council Chambers. The design approach focuses on unifying the entire City Hall street frontage along Anaheim Boulevard into an active linear public space.
Drawing on local agricultural history, the four design alternatives incorporate citrus groves and existing palm tree groves to celebrate the citrus history of Anaheim and Orange County. All designs activate and space with a new water feature and expand the Civic Center Plaza to include the existing Japanese sister City Friendship Plaza.
Urban Design considerations included creating a new street with parking between City Hall and the renovated Willdan Building, providing ADA access to City Council Chambers, confirming the legality of removing an NEA public art piece and providing future connection to the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club and new residential areas.
